Northshore Utility District Welcomes New Commissioners

Northshore Utility District (NUD) is welcoming two new members to its Board of Commissioners: Pat Sutherland and Brent Smith, both longtime community members.

Pat Sutherland was elected to Position 2, previously held by Commissioner Tom Mortimer. He was sworn in on December 1, 2025 to complete the remainder of Commissioner Mortimer’s term and will begin a full six-year term in January. Sutherland is a former NUD employee with more than 30 years of service, holding roles including Senior Utility Worker, Engineering Technician, and IT Technician.

Brent Smith was elected to Position 5, currently held by Commissioner Suzanne Greathouse, and will be sworn in on January 5, 2026. Smith is a Kenmore real estate agent and real estate appraiser, a former Kenmore City Councilmember, and a University of Washington graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He is also a dedicated advocate for community recreation facilities and for youth sports

NUD extends its gratitude to outgoing commissioners for their dedicated service. Commissioner Mortimer, who retired on October 30, 2025, served seven years on the Board and built a distinguished legal career focused on water law, water quality, water supply planning, environmental permitting, and federal Indian law. Commissioner Greathouse, who joined the Board in 2021, is CEO and Co-Founder of REPSVR and an active community volunteer with the Kenmore Heritage Society, Evergreen Hospital, Bothell/Kenmore Chamber of Commerce, and Kenmore Business Alliance.

NUD’s five-member Board of Commissioners sets policy for the District and meets twice monthly. Northshore Utility District is a special-purpose public agency providing water and sewer services to more than 85,000 customers throughout the northeast end of Lake Washington. Learn more at www.nud.net.
