In 1978, after completing five years as an
enlistee in the Air Force, Margaret and her husband, Ed, settled
in the Northshore area. They went to work for US West as
communication technicians. Margaret resigned as project manager in
1990 to stay home with her school age children. She was called
back to US West to help with re-engineering the service center in
a part-time position and left when the job was done. This allowed
her the opportunity to serve whenever needed as commissioner.
She attends the regional meetings for both water and sewer as The
Board's appointed representative. These monthly meetings bring
together staff and elected to perform oversight of King County
waste water treatment and Seattle Public Utility water supply.
Her varied background has brought a fresh perspective to the
issues discussed. These regional committees provide guidance for
Seattle and King County utility budgets in the billions of
dollars, all paid for with local rates.
When not attending meetings on behalf of the district, Margaret
enjoys spending time with her husband, two grown sons, a cat and a
dog. She keeps up with current events and writes the occasional
letter to the local editors. Commissioners receive a large volume
of reading material but she manages to fit in two daily
newspapers, multiple membership newsletters and an occasional
novel or two.
