New King County Franchise Fee Will Not Affect NUD

King County Council recently approved a new utility franchise fee—but it will not affect Northshore Utility District customers.
Ordinance 18403 allows the County to charge a fee to electric, gas, water and sewer utilities for activities conducted within King County’s right-of-way—this is any area outside of city boundaries. As a result, customers of affected franchise utilities may face an increase of as much as $5 per month on their utility bills.
However, since no part of Northshore Utility District’s service area is located within unincorporated King County boundaries, this fee does not apply to NUD customers.
